If you are visiting the Costa del Sol between February 15th and March 2nd this year, prepare to eat hearty and traditional Spanish stews – just like granny makes, if your granny is Spanish that is!
The third ‘Cazuela de la Abuela’ (Granny’s stew) celebration, with the aim of preserving the Andalucian gastonomy of old, will see restaurants and inns in Fuengirola that specialise in this type of cuisine, promoting their recipes.
And during the event, you can sample these, with a glass of crianza wine, a beer, soft drink or water, for just €2 a serving – visiting as many of the participating establishments as you want.
Pick up a ‘passport’ at your first tasting, or from the tourist office in Fuengirola town hall’s ‘Casa de Cultura’, and collect 5 different stamps identifying your favourite dish, to help decide the winning recipes.
Prizes and gold, silver and bronze certificates are to be awarded to the winners, as decided by the public vote, on March 11th. Completed passports need to be deposited at the tourist office by end of day March 5th and will also be entered into a surprise prize draw.
As with its annual and successful ‘erotic tapas’ trail, the event is designed to stir the appetites of visitors and local residents alike. Cazuela is the name given to the clay or terracotta cooking pot and ingredients can typically include meats such as chorizo, fabada beans, onion, stock and spices – with many variations on the theme.
Fuengirola is a few minutes’ ride, or long beach stroll, from Club La Costa World and CLC World Resorts & Hotels is one of the main sponsors of this, and similar events.
