Once the ‘bucket and spade’ resort on the Costa del Sol, Torremolinos has evolved into a cosmopolitan town with a great choice of fish restaurants, beach bars and lively nightlife. A great family resort with Aqualand water park, Crocodile Park and long, sandy beaches.
Miles of Sandy Beaches
Famous for its miles of golden sandy beaches, seafood restaurants and vibrant nightlife, Torremolinos is a very popular holiday destination with the British and has a large expat community that live and work in the town all year round.
Lying to the west of Malaga city, Torremolinos benefits from good connections to other parts of the Costa del Sol by road and train and is easily accessible from Malaga Airport.
The main street of Calle San Miguel is the social heartbeat of the town with many bars, restaurants and shops and is the perfect place to take a stroll during the day or in the evening. Take a seat at a pavement cafe and be entertained by the various street artists, shop for souvenirs including leather goods, shoes and clothes or just sit back and relax with a beer and people watch. At the end of Calle San Miguel, descend the steps that snake down through the narrow streets, also full of shops and restaurants, onto the beach at the bottom.
Escape the hustle and bustle
Away from the hustle and bustle, Torremolinos has a few areas that offer a slower pace for a more relaxing day out.
Take a walk around the botanical gardens, a hidden gem, located near to Aqualand water park and the crocodile park. Filled with a wide variety of plants, water features and garden ornaments, these stunning gardens provide shady areas to sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings.
Battery Park is located at the far end of Carihuela and is easily reached from the Montemar Alto stop on the train line. The park was once a military fortress that has been completely transformed into an oasis of calm with stunning views of the Mediterranean. A manmade lake with ornate fountains, conservatories, children’s playgrounds and a viewing tower complete with old military canons are the highlights of this tranquil park.
No article on Torremolinos would be complete without mentioning the nightlife, famous for its many bars, theme pubs and nightclubs.
